I started of from Betty Hill fairly late this morning about 9.30 and headed down the coastal road. There were a few steep hills but it soon flattened out. The only trouble was that there was a very strong head wind. The sort of wind that when I did get a hill to roll down I had to peddle or I would get nowhere.

I went passed another highlight of my trip Dounreay nuclear power plant. By now there was a heavy mist starting to descend across everything making enjoying the today's ride very hard.

I reached Dunnet Head which is the most northernly point on the British mainland, at this point I was going to take a detour and go there but I could only see about 100ft in front of me so I through it would be a waste of time. I carried on going counting down the miles till I reached my final destination, along the way I passed a couple I had talked two days before when I watched the seals. I gave them a cheery “hello again” and pushed on to the last 2 miles to the end.

I reached John O’Groats at 2.45pm, I got my picture taken by the sign and cracked open a half bottle of champagne I had brought in Nairn days before. On looking around John O’Groats I was surprised how similar it was to Lands End with the coaches of tourist and us idiots cycling either in or out of the place. Still I did it. Now how do I get home?

That’s all, thank you and goodnight

Steve (Finally off his bike)
