| Hello, first I think I
should apologize to Anne for the picture of the mild cheddar and not the full strength
stuff, on the daily update page yesterday. Would believe it was all they had in the local
shop at 9pm.After a great stay at the Market Cross hotel. I started of today heading for
Cheddar Gorge, the road gently winds through the Gorge then the road gets a bit steeper
with every turn .I went around one turn to see what looked like deer, but as I got closer
I realized that they where in fact goats. They where quite happy to let me take a photo
from a couple of feet away. As you get closer to the top of the Gorge the steep rock faces
give way for trees that cling to the side of the road. Then it was across the Mendip hills
and an amazing view of the Chew Valley lake form the other side. I cycled across to the
highlight of my trip Bristol. I stopped to look at the Clifton suspension bridge, named
after the famous Bernie Clifton, star of crackerjack. After this it was a bit of a
nightmare I got lost and ended up having to double back on myself adding about 6 miles to
my trip. I finally found my way across the river Severn via the m48 suspension bridge and
cycled into Chepstow. After stopping and having a well-earned ice cream and a quick look
at Chepstow Castle, I pushed on through the outskirts of the forest of dean and finally
got to Ross-on-Wye. For more of the adventures
of the amazingly bad map reading man, tune in tomorrow.   |
